Public is invited to Sheep Days on the Alpine Loop

Silverton, Colorado – August 3, 2018

Sheep Days Flier

The Public is invited to the 20th annual Sheep Days on August 7th from 10 am to 2 pm above Silverton. The sheep herders will open their camp to visitors and the public is invited to stop by for a visit and meet the sheep dogs and visit the ranchers. This is an opportunity for the public to learn about the sheep operations, ask questions and experience sheep management operations.

Sheep herds are permitted by the Forest Service and BLM to graze during the summer months.  The sheep are guarded by dogs and moved by sheep herders who camp all summer with the sheep and the dogs.  The sheep travel and graze in herds and are moved from place to place.

The sheep camp is east of Engineer Pass, on the Alpine Loop.  Four wheel drive is required to reach the site.
