Public Firewood Opportunity Available through November 14th

Bayfield, CO – November 1st, 2018 – The Columbine District of the San Juan National Forest has made two log decks, located at the Cascade Gravel Pit off of National Forest System Road 579, available for public consumption with the purchase of a ‘Standard Firewood Cutting Permit’.  Maps to the location are available at the Columbine Ranger District Office in Bayfield, as well as at the San Juan Headquarters office in Durango.  The logs are the product of 416 fire-line construction and are available through November 14th after which time the Hermosa Park Road (NFSR 578) will be closed.

Please note that the 20 foot tall log deck has been sold and is off limits to firewood cutting.  This deck will be removed with equipment.  Also, the public should use caution when obtaining firewood from the two smaller log decks because wood can shift, creating dangerous conditions while cutting.
