Personal-Use Fuelwood Permits
The Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District begins sales of personal-use fuelwood permits on April 1, 2022. All other SFNF offices will begin sales on May 2. Until May 2, the permits will only be valid on the Pecos/Las Vegas District. After May 2, the permits will be valid on the entire forest.
Until the Santa Fe National Forest reopens its doors to the public, fuelwood permit sales will once again be conducted virtually over the phone with a credit card.
Seasonal Road Closures
Many developed campgrounds and forest roads that are susceptible to damage under severe weather conditions on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are closed for the winter season. Seasonal closures protect public health and safety, infrastructure and natural resources.
Seasonal road and campground closures on the SFNF generally occur between December and May because of winter weather and hazardous road conditions. The closures prohibit the use of motorized vehicles, including all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles, on restricted roads when gates are closed, locked or posted with a closure sign.
If you are planning to visit the forest, it's a good idea to check with the district offices about their closures.
