Holy Ghost Canyon Road to Close for Repairs Beginning July 23

SANTA FE, NM – July 19, 2018 – For Immediate Release. For public safety reasons, Forest Road 122 of Holy Ghost Canyon will close to vehicle access primarily for major road repairs beginning July 23.

The gate to the Holy Ghost Canyon will close to the public for about three weeks, which places the anticipated reopening on or about August 10.

The Holy Ghost Campground, Trailhead and Group Area is located in the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) and will be inaccessible by vehicle during the closure period.

“Safety is our top priority, therefore any member of the public utilizing vehicles on FR 122 (Holy Ghost Canyon) will need to be out of the area before July 23rd,” said Steve Romero, district ranger. “It’s a popular road that gets a lot of use and is in much need of repair. Because this type of road work requires high temperatures and dry road conditions, we’ll be taking advantage of any lulls in monsoon activity to get it done.”

The road work was originally planned to start in the late May to early June timeframe, but work was halted when the forest entered into closure. The SFNF has been open with no fire restrictions since July 9.
