Sawtooth National Recreation Area seeks comments for Outfitter and Guide Management Plan

Sawtooth National Forest proposes a new amendment to Plan

Ketchum, ID, 1, July 2022— The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is seeking additional comments for the Outfitter and Guide Management Plan and its proposed forest plan amendment by July 30, 2022.

“I strongly encourage those with an interest in our Outfitter and Guide community to review the management plan and provide the Sawtooth National Recreation Area with your comments. This plan will provide direction on how outfitters and guides are managed on the national recreation area for years to come.” Sawtooth National Recreation Area Ranger, Kirk Flannigan, said. “Hearing directly from community members, stakeholders and all those invested in the management of your public lands helps the Forest Service make informed and balanced decisions.”

The national recreation area is developing a unit-wide, land-based outfitter and guide management plan as a means to streamline the processing of outfitter and guide proposals, to provide consistent administration of outfitter and guide permits, and to provide a sustainable, complete, and long-term approach to the management of the outfitter and guide program.

The proposed amendment would modify direction in the Sawtooth Wilderness Plan of the Sawtooth National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan (Forest Plan) to better guide future decision making for outfitted recreation in the wilderness area.  For more information, please view the notice from the official paper of record, Challis Messenger.
