CAMPGROUNDS SNOWED IN, CURRENTLY NOT ABLE TO OPEN FOR STEELHEAD SEASON

STANLEY, ID – It is still winter on the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.  In the past we were able to open campgrounds to accommodate those coming to fish for Steelhead.  Mormon Bend and Salmon River Campgrounds are completely under snow.  Our employees have looked at the best way to open them and have determined that we will just need to wait for the snow to melt. As soon as it is practical and we can get our equipment into the site, we will provide access to the campgrounds.

There are other places that the public can stay.  Options available in Stanley include:  Mountain Village, Lower Stanley Motel and the Stanley Town Square.  You can also contact the BLM office in Salmon at 208-756-5400 to check on the status of BLM campgrounds along the upper Salmon River.

Additionally rocks are falling into the road and wildlife is abundant.  We urge you to be cautious while driving the highway.

We will be posting updates to the Forest Facebook Page so please look for updates as conditions change.
