FIRE UPDATE FOR SEPTEMBER 20, 2020

TRAP CREEK FIRE: The Trap Creek fire is located on the Sawtooth National Recreation Area approximately 9 miles northwest of Stanley, ID. The Trap Creek Fire was first reported on September 14th, 2020 near Trap Creek Campground. As of yesterday morning, Sierra Front Incident Management Team 1 with Incident Commander Scott Stephenson took over fire operations. Moisture and cooler temperatures helped moderate yesterday’s fire behavior.

Highway 21 is open, however, a pilot car is in place from mile post 116 to 119 due to limited visibility from smoke and for firefighter safety. Monday, a hazard tree mitigation project will begin along the burned sections of highway to address standing hazard tree patches that continue to pose a threat to firefighter and public safety. Be advised that intermittent closures of the highway are possible due to increase in fire behavior and the upcoming hazard tree mitigation project.

CLOSURES – A forest area closure is in effect for the area around the fire and was expanded yesterday to include Valley Creek Road (see map). The purpose of this order is to protect the public and fire fighters during wildfire activity suppression activities. This includes all roads, trails, campgrounds, and hunting units within the closure.

Total acreage: 2,021

Percent Containment: 20%

Personnel on Incident: 112
