SAN BERNARDINO NATIONAL FOREST

Grays Peak Area Closure

 

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), and to protect natural resources, the following acts are prohibited within the San Bernardino National Forest.  This Order is effective from December 1, 2017 through June 22, 2018.

  1. Going into or being upon any National Forest System lands within the Grays Peak Closure Area.  The boundary of the Grays Peak Closure Area begins at the intersection of Forest Road No. 2N70 and Forest Trail No. 1W06, then continues northeast along the stream drainage bottom to the boundary of the San Bernardino National Forest, then continues east, then south, then east along the boundary of the San Bernardino National Forest to the shoreline of Big Bear Lake, then continues south along the shoreline of Big Bear Lake to State Highway 38, then continues west along the northern edge of State Highway 38 to the boundary of the San Bernardino National Forest, then continues west along the boundary to the center of Township 2 North , Range 1 West, San Bernardino Base and Meridian, then continues northwest on a bearing of 135 degrees to a point 0.33 miles south of the intersection of Forest Road No. 2N70 and Forest Road No. 2N04X, then continues north along the western edge of Forest Road No. 2N70 back to the starting point, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.53(a). 
  1. Being on any National Forest road within the Grays Peak Closure area, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.54(e).
  1. Being on any National Forest trail within the Grays Peak Closure area, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.55(a).

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act.
  1. Residents within the Grays Peak Closure Area are exempt from Prohibition No. 1 to the extent necessary to gain access to their residences.
  1. Any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both.  16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
