Lake Fire Closure

Pursuant to 16 USC 551 and 36 CFR 261.50(a) and (b), to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the San Bernardino National Forest.  This Order is effective from July 19, 2016 through July18, 2017.

  1. Going into or being upon National Forest System lands within the Lake Fire Closure Area.  The Lake Fire Closure Area boundary begins at the intersection of the Santa Ana River Trail (Forest Trail No. 2E03) and State Highway (SH) 38, then continues west along SH 38 to its intersection with a point 1000 feet west of the South Fork of the Santa Ana River, then continues south to its intersection with the southern section line of Section 13, T. 1N., R. 1E. of the San Bernardino Base and Meridian (SBBM), then continues west along the southern section line of Section 13 to its intersection with Forest Road No. 1N62Y, then continues west along the south side of Forest Road No. 1N62Y to its intersection with Jenks Lake Road, then continues west along the southern edge of Jenks Lake Road to its intersection with the eastern line of the W1/2 W1/2 NE1/4 SE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21 , T. 1N., R. 1E., SBBM, then continues north along the eastern line of W1/2 W1/2 NE1/4 SE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21 to its intersection with the NE corner of the S1/2 NW1/4 SW1/4 SE1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21, T. 1N., R. 1E., SBBM, then continues west along the northern line of S1/2 NW1/4 SW1/4 SE1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21, T. 1N., R. 1E., SBBM, and the northern line of S1/2 N1/2 SE1/4 SW1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21 , T. 1N., R. 1E., SBBM, to its intersection with the NW corner of the S1/2 N1/2 SE1/4 SW1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21 , T. 1N., R., 1E., SBBM, then continues south along the western line of the SE1/4 SW1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21, T. 1N., R. 1E., to its intersection with the southern line of the SW1/4 NE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21 , T. 1N., R., 1E., SBBM, then continues south along the western line of the eastern 1/2 of NW1/4 SE1/4 NW1/4 of Section 21, T. 1N., R., 1E., to its intersection with the southern edge of Jenks Lake Road, then continues west along the southern edge of Jenks Lake Road to its intersection with the West Fork of Barton Creek, then continues south along the West Fork of Barton Creek to its intersection with the 6880 foot contour line, then west along the 6880 foot contour line to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1E06 then continues southwesterly along the eastern and southern side of Forest Trail No. 1E06 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1E16, then continues southwesterly along the southeast side of Forest Trail No. 1E16 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1W07, then continues south and  east along Forest Trail No. 1W07 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1E06, then continues south along Forest Trail No. 1E06 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1E04, then continues northeast along Forest Trail 1E04 to its intersection with Forest Trail No. 1W07, then continues southeast along the north side of Forest Trail No. 1W07 to its intersection with the southern section line of Section 2, T. 1S., R., 1E., SBBM, then continues east along the southern line of Section 2 and Section 1, T. 1S., R., 1E., SBBM, to its intersection with the southeast corner of section 1, then continues south along the western line of Section 7, T. 1S., R., 1E., SBBM, to its intersection with the 11200 foot contour, then continues east along the 11200 foot contour around San Gorgonio Peak to its intersection with the western line of Section 7, T.1S., R. 2E., SBBM, then continues south along the western line of Section 7, T., 1S, R. 2E., SBBM, to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 18, then continues east along the southern section line of Sections 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13 in T. 1S., R. 2E., SBBM, to its intersection with the Forest boundary, then continues north along the Forest Boundary to its intersection with the southern section line of Section 36, T. 1N. R. 2E., SBBM, then continues easterly along  the southern line of Section 36, T. 1N., R. 2E., SBBM, to its intersection with the SE corner of Section 36, then continues north along the eastern line of Section 36 to its intersection with the NE corner of Section 36, then continues east along the southern line of Section 30 of Township 1 North, Range 3 East, SBBM to the SE corner of Section 30, T. 1N., R. 3E., then continues north along the Forest boundary to its intersection with the northeast corner of Section 3 in T. 1 N., R. 3E., SBBM, then continues northwest along Heartbreak Ridge to its intersection with the western section line of Section 32, T. 2N., R. 3E., SBBM, then continues south along the western section line of Section 32, T. 2N., R. 3E., and Section 5, T. 2N., R. 3E., SBBM, to its intersection with the southwest corner of Section 5, then continues west along the northern section line of Section 7, T. 1N., R. 3E., SBBM, to its intersection with the west side of the Pacific Crest Trail, then continues in a southerly and southwestern direction along the west side of the Pacific Crest Trail to its intersection with the northern section line of Section 30, T. 1N., R. 3E., SBBM, then continues north, east, south, and west around Coon Creek Cabin to its intersection with the Pacific Crest Trail, then continues west along the southern side of the Pacific Crest Trail to its intersection with Forest Road No. 1N37, then continues northwesterly along the south side of Forest Road No. 1N37 to its intersection with the Santa Ana River Trail, then continues westerly along the south side of the Santa Ana River Trail back to the starting point, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.53(e).

2.  Being on any National Forest System trail within the Lake Fire Closure Area, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.55(a).

3.  Being on any National Forest System road within the Lake Fire Closure Area, as shown on the attached map.  36 CFR 261.54(e)

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

  1.  Any Federal, State or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty.
     
  2. Persons with a permit from the Forest Service specifically authorizing the otherwise prohibited act or omission.
     
  3. Persons hiking the full length of the Pacific Crest Trail are not exempt from the prohibitions listed above, but may be on the Pacific Crest Trail within the Lake Fire Closure Area.
     
  4. Owners or lessees of private land within the Lake Fire Closure Area, to the extent necessary to gain access to their land.

These prohibitions are in addition to the general prohibitions in 36 CFR Part 261, Subpart A.

A violation of these prohibitions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both 16 USC 551 and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
