Officials with San Bernardino National Forest are notifying the public today about an administrative change to its land management plan. The change adds Presidential Proclamation 9396, which established the Sand to Snow National Monument on February 12, 2016. This action fulfills a non-discretionary administrative requirement.

The 154,000-acre Monument extends from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands on the Sonoran desert floor up to over 10,000 feet in the San Gorgonio Wilderness. 71,000 acres of the monument is managed by the Forest Service and is primarily designated wilderness.

The monument is co-managed by the Forest Service and BLM. Both agencies will next work on the development of a monument management plan, which will include opportunities for public scoping and commenting. No dates are currently set for that process.
