North Fork Ranger District

Did you know that the Wild and Scenic Salmon River flows through a canyon deeper than the Grand Canyon? Or that National Forests still actively use manned lookouts to assist with wildfire observations? Have you hiked to one of the natural hot springs and enjoyed the scenery while soaking? Or tried gold-panning in a small creek? Would you hop on a mountain bike, dirt bike, horse, or ATV to explore one of the many designated trails that lead you through rugged mountain terrain? Have you noticed how time has been preserved through pictographs?
You are cordially invited to stop by and visit with any of the knowledgeable staff at the North Fork Ranger District – let them help decide where your next adventure will be. The front desk is staffed year-round to assist with visitor information as well as the purchase of maps, firewood permits, and annual recreation permits and passes.
Together with the Salmon-Cobalt and Leadore Ranger Districts, the North Fork Ranger District manages the northern zone of the Salmon Challis National Forest. Under the District Ranger, this office specializes in heritage/archeology, fires, fuels and timber management, recreation, rivers, roads, trails, and wilderness.
