Cancellations and No-Shows on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River

No-Show Policy and Penalty

Failure to cancel your reservation in your Recreation.gov profile categorizes you as a no-show.

Or, if you do not pick up your permit by 4:30 PM MT on your launch date, you will be documented as a no-show. (If Boundary Creek is not staffed and Indian Creek is, boaters must stop at Indian Creek to obtain their permit before continuing downriver. Check on staffing dates and hours on the Floating the Middle Fork of the Salmon River page, or call 208-879-4101.)

No-Show Penalty: No-shows will not receive a refund of any prepaid fees, and are restricted from holding a permit on this river for three years.

Cancellation Requirements and Late Cancellation Penalty

If you cannot make the trip, you must cancel your reservation in your Recreation.gov profile. Cancel your reservation at www.recreation.gov as soon as possible, but no later than 21 calendar days prior to your launch date.

When water levels exceed 5.0 feet, if the road to Boundary Creek is not open, or if your launch is within 21 days when you reserve it, cancellations can be submitted up to 3 days before the launch date without penalty. While the 21-day time requirement may be waived, a cancellation must always be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile. Recreation fees will be refunded once a cancellation is submitted.

Failure to provide a timely cancellation will trigger a late cancellation penalty, and you will be restricted from holding a permit on this river for three years. However, your recreation fees will be refunded if you submit a cancellation at Recreation.gov prior to your launch date.

Cancellations are reissued at www.recreation.gov. Cancellations are available randomly within 24 hours of being released.

  • August 15 through September 15 launch dates will not be reissued after March 15th. Any openings for these dates will not be filled as part of the Chinook salmon mitigation measures being implemented on the Middle Fork. Because these dates are not being reissued, the 21-day cancellation requirement has been reduced to one (1) day so cancellations can be submitted without penalty until the day before the launch date.

Please note that your reservation is NOT transferable. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis if the permit holder has an injury, medical issue, or special circumstances; call 208-879-4101 if you have questions about your situation.
