Baylor students boat the Chattooga, backpack and...haul garbage!

Baylor vols with garbage haulBaylor School  students traveled from Chattanooga, TN to celebrate their 40th Anniversary on the Andrew Pickens Ranger District this year. It's certainly not their first visit. School seniors come every year to enjoy boating on the Chattooga and backpacking. But it's not all fun and games. As part of their five day excursion each youth participates in a Forest Service service project. That's about 30 students per day doing trail work or litter clean-ups.

The group donates  900 hours of volunteer work each year. A bonus this year, the Foothills Trail Conference and Oconee Hiking Club joined in, co-leading the volunteer projects.
