Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina close campgrounds and office ahead of Hurricane Florence

Huger, SC, September 11, 2018 – To ensure the safety of the public, visitors and our employees, we have decided to close down all campgrounds and recreation areas on the Francis Marion National Forest north of Charleston, South Carolina until further notice. Forest leadership has been watching the National Weather Service’s forecasts in making their decision and we will notify the public following the path of Hurricane Florence when it’s safe to return to the forest. This will include the temporary suspension of creating reservations on www.recreation.gov. Thank you.

The Francis Marion NF will close these facilities at noon on Tuesday, September, 11, 2018:

  • Francis Marion Ranger District Office, 2967 Steed Creek Rd. Huger, SC 29450
  • Buckhall Recreation Area
  • Sewee Visitor Center
  • Wambaw Cycle Trail
  • Twin Ponds Rifle Range
  • Elmwood Campground
  • Honey Hill Campground
  • Huger Recreation Area
  • McConnell and Price Landings
  • Halfway Creek Campground
  • All trails and canoe launches
