Francis Marion & Sumter National Forests in South Carolina continues the closure of campgrounds ahead of Hurricane Florence

Columbia, SC, September 13, 2018 – To ensure the safety of the public, visitors and our employees, we will close all campgrounds on the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests in South Carolina beginning Thursday, September 13 at 12 p.m. until further notice. We will notify the public after Hurricane Florence passes through the state and when it’s safe to engage in overnight camping and other activities on the forest. There also may be a temporary suspension of creating reservations on www.recreation.gov.

We encourage the public to delay use of trails, rifle ranges and day use activities due to unstable and hazardous conditions with the predicted abundance of rainfall and lingering moisture expected.

Follow the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests' Facebook page and our website at www.fs.usda.gov/scnfs or call our Forest headquarters at 803-561-4000.
