Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests offer fee-free day use in observance of Veterans Day

Columbia, SC – Nov. 7, 2019 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: In honor of those who have served our country, the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests will offer a fee-free use day for Monday, Nov. 11, waiving fees at day-use fee sites on three ranger districts.

"It is our pleasure, each year, to celebrate the nation’s veterans and military personnel by inviting all forest visitors to come out and enjoy popular recreation sites," said Forest Supervisor Rick Lint. "Fall is a great time for individuals and families to get outdoors and make use of their public lands across South Carolina."

On the Francis Marion National Forest, day-use fees will be waived at the Buck Hall Recreation Area and the Wambaw Cycle Trail.

On the Sumter National Forest, day-use fees will be waived at the following sites:

  • Long Cane Ranger District: Fell Camp, Lick Fork, and Parsons Mountain Recreation Areas and at the Cedar Springs and Parsons Mountain OHV Trails.
  • Enoree Ranger District: Buncombe Horse Trail, the Enoree OHV Trail, as well as at Leeds, Indian Creek, Fairforest and Philson Crossroads rifle ranges.

The Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests offer a variety of nature-based recreational opportunities across the state – from hiking in the mountains to mountain biking in the Midlands to kayaking the coastal blackwater rivers and swamps.
