Columbia, SC, January 15, 2021 — All Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests’ offices and ranger stations will be closed on Monday, January 18, in honor of Martin Luther King Holiday.  We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, January 19, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  We look forward to seeing you then!

In honor of the Martin Luther King Holiday, the Forest Service will be waiving fees for all day-use areas on Forest Service Lands.  No day-use fee will be required at any of our day-use areas on the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests.

Know Before You Go.  Check the weather for the specific part of the Forest you will be visiting at  Remember to practice good campfire safety and respect your public lands by packing out your trash.

To protect public health and safety, all forest visitors are encouraged to:

  • Avoid visiting the forest if you are sick.
  • Follow the CDC) guidance on personal hygiene and social distancing.
  • Stay at least six feet apart from others. This should include any dog on a leash.
  • Stay out of closed areas and check to see if your destination is open before you visit.
  • Take your trash with you when you leave. Trash overflowing the receptacles becomes litter and can be harmful to wildlife and attract predators.
  • Please make arrangements to use restrooms before or after your visit to the forest. Unmanaged waste creates a health hazard for our employees and for other visitors.
  • If an area is crowded, look for a less occupied location or return at a later time. Consider avoiding the forest during high-use periods.
