JONESBORO, III. (OCTOBER 4, 2018) – Join the Shawnee National Forest, Friends of the Shawnee National Forest and Unimin Corporation at the annual “Critter Night” event.  This free, family event will be held at the Lincoln Memorial Picnic Grounds in Jonesboro, Illinois on Friday, October 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Learn about Illinois’ nocturnal animals while enjoying an evening outdoors with friends and family. Kids can practice their skill as a wildlife biologist at the “bat cave” and see the tools used in monitoring bats. Meet costumed critters, do crafts and listen to nighttime sounds, as you explore a variety of activity stations. Special guest speaker Bev Shofstall of Free Again Wildlife Rehabilitation Center will enchant the audience with a live animal presentation at 5:30 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket.

All ages are welcome. For more information or to pre-register a large group (Scouts, 4-H, etc.), please call the Shawnee National Forest Mississippi Bluffs Ranger Station at 618-833-8576, Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
