Willow Creek Cross-country Ski Trails

People and dogs cross-country skiing at Willow Creek

Washakie Ranger District trail crews have reclaimed the cross-country ski area at Willow Creek (formerly South Pass).

The trailhead is located about 34 miles west of Lander, across from the main entrance to South Pass City, on State Highway 28.

About 15 miles of trails have been brushed out, mapped, and reblazed. As soon as the Lander Noridc Skiing Association acquires a new groomer, the old groomer from Beaver Creek will be available for Willow Creek.

Especially pleasing to pet owners is that pets are allowed on the Willow Creek trails. (Pets are not allowed at Beaver Creek, due to regular trail grooming expenses.)

Wildlife abound at Willow Creek - moose, bear, elk, deer, cougar, marten, ermine, coyote, winter hare, porcupine, and a host of birds. Keep pets, and yourself, safe by not allowing pets to harass wildlife.

Cell phone coverage is spotty, so plan ahead, prepare for the worst, and tell others of your plans. Dial 911 for emergencies.

Please park in a manner that will not impede chain-up in the turnaround. Thank you.

The Willow Creek area is a work in progress. This winter, recreation staff will continue to add blazes, look for additional routes for expansion, and provide grooming after snow storms.
