Directions

From Highway 99 in Fresno, take Highway 41 North (Yosemite) to Highway 180 (Kings Canyon Highway). When the freeway ends at Chestnut Avenue, turn right. Turn left at the first stop light (Belmont Avenue). Continue driving 23 miles east on Belmont Avenue to the town of Piedra. To visit the dam and/or park office, turn right on Pine Flat Road. To visit Deer Creek, Island Park, Lakeview, or Trimmer Recreation Areas, follow Trimmer Springs Road north. |
Boating |
There are two commercial marinas on the lake located at the Deer Creek and Trimmer recreation areas. These offer boat and slip rentals, gasoline, camping, and fishing supplies. Boat launching ramps are available at the Deer Creek, Island Park, Lakeview and Trimmer recreation areas. Boaters are reminded that there is a counter-clockwise direction of travel on the lake and water surface levels fluctuate daily. Six overnight mooring areas are located around the lake. |
Camping & Picnicking |
There is one public campground at Pine Flat Lake operated by the Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps maintains 97 campsites and group camping areas at Island Park Campground, which can be reserved year-round. All campsites are suitable for RV and tent camping. Conveniently located restrooms provide flush toilets and hot showers at Island Park Campground, which can be reserved year-round online at www.recreation.gov or call the National Recreation Reservation Service toll free at 1-877-444-6777. |
Fishing | The lake offers a variety of gamefish, including large and smallmouth bass, spotted bass, rainbow trout, king (chinook) and kokanee salmon, catfish, crappie and bluegill. Anglers can fish for native rainbow trout in the upper Kings River, which is a special management area that encourages natural reproduction of wild trout without the planting of domestic stock. The lower Kings River below Pine Flat Dam is planted weekly and managed as a put and take fishery. Fishing tackle, supplies and information are available at Lakeridge and Trimmer Marinas, as well as several stores near the lake.State fishing regulations apply. |

History of Pine Flat Reservoir |
Pine Flat Dam is an impressive structure which impounds the waters of the Kings River. Construction of the 429-foot tall dam was completed in 1954. Today, Pine Flat continues to provide flood control and irrigation benefits to the San Joaquin Valley. A hydroelectric plant was completed in 1984. At maximum capacity, the lake holds 1,000,000 acre feet of water. |
