Sand Lake Recreation Area OHV

This popular OHV area is open year around and has three developed campgrounds, a dispersed sand camping area, and a day use staging area that allow access the sand dunes and beach. A fee is required at all campgrounds, the day use lot and the open sand. Campgrounds fill up every weekend May through September.

The entire area is within a Tsunami Inundation Zone and an on-site siren does a 3 minute test on the second Monday of each month.

Here are the Rules for OHV riding

Know the regulations before you arrive! The State of Oregon establishes and administers OHV permits and regulations. Regulations are strictly enforced by the Tillamook County Sheriff and the U.S. Forest Service. Go to www.rideatvoregon.org for updates on the ATV laws and rules.

Curfew: There is an OHV riding curfew at the Sand Lake Recreation Area between midnight and 6:00 AM. No off road riding is allowed between those hours except when establishing or vacating a dispersed campsite. See Forest Order establishing this rule

Portable Toilets: Campers in dispersed areas of the Sand Lake Recreation Area must have and use a portable toilet. See Forest Order establishing this rule

Alcohol Ban: Possession and use of alcohol is prohibited in Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) riding areas outside of developed sites and  on the open sand dunes including Derrick Road campground.
