Reedsport, OR: Forest Service officials are temporarily closing a portion of South Jetty Road, near Florence, OR, due to unsafe conditions. The closure begins at milepost 4.5 from Highway 101, just beyond parking area #5. Beginning the morning of Feb. 4, vehicles will not be able to access South Jetty parking areas #6 and 7 or the crab dock until repairs are complete. Visitors may continue to access the crab dock and beach by foot but are encouraged to use caution as they may encounter heavy equipment in the area.

Erosion from the Siuslaw River has created an unstable road surface and hazardous conditions for vehicles. Forest Service engineers are securing the necessary permits to repair the road, which is expected to reopen to vehicles in 5 - 8 weeks. Please contact the Central Coast Ranger District or Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area offices or review current conditions here for information on the status of the road closure.

The Pacific Northwest Region (Region 6) of the US Forest Service contains 17 National Forests, two National Scenic Areas, a National Grassland, and two National Volcanic Monuments, all within the States of Oregon and Washington. These national forests provide timber for people, forage for cattle and wildlife, habitat for fish, plants, and animals, and some of the finest recreation lands in the country.
