Release Date: Apr 11, 2018

District Ranger Jeff MarszalEUREKA, Calif. – Merv George Jr., forest supervisor for the Six Rivers National Forest, has announced the selection of Jeff Marszal as the new district ranger for the Gasquet Ranger District/Smith River National Recreation Area (NRA). “We’re excited to have Jeff join our Six Rivers’ family,” said George. “He brings with him valuable leadership skills, as well as a strong resource background, both assets that make him a great fit for the forest.”

For the past 2½ years, Marszal has been the district ranger on the Klamath National Forest’s Happy Camp/Oak Knoll Ranger District. He has a strong background in environmental analysis and interdisciplinary team leadership from his time as an environmental coordinator, on the Ochoco National Forest, in Oregon. Marszal began his US Forest Service career on the Six Rivers, first for a season as a wildlife technician on a survey and manage crew on the Orleans Ranger District, followed by several years as a forest inventory specialist, surveying the entire Six Rivers, including the Gasquet Ranger District, twice.

Marszal graduated from Humboldt State University with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration and Natural Resources Policy.

“I have deep appreciation and affection for the Smith River NRA and have spent a lot of time recreating on the river with family and friends,” said Marszal. “My wife Cassandra and I have a 6-month-old son named Luca, and enjoy international travel and all things outdoors, including backpacking, bird watching, swimming, and rock climbing.” He also enjoys painting, playing the drums and reading.

Marszal begins his new assignment on May 13. He fills a vacancy left open when former Gasquet District Ranger Dave Palmer transferred to the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest as the High Cascade District Ranger.
