Sonora, CA...The Forest Service announced today that repairs to Lumsden Road (Forest Road 1N10), located eight miles east of Groveland, Calif. off of State Highway 120, received much needed repairs and is now open for public use. The Stanislaus National Forest closed Lumsden Road after rocks and debris slides caused the road to become impassable during last winter’s heavy rain and snow.

The 2009 Travel Management Decision designated Lumsden Road (1N10) to be open to highway legal vehicles only, the section north of Lumsden Bridge to 1N01 is closed from December 15 to April 15. The road opening allows access to Merals Pool raft/kayak launch, Lumsden Campground, South Fork Campground, and Lumsden Bridge Campground.

The scope of work included removing landslide debris, constructing drainage features, spot surfacing, reinforcing soil slopes and the construction of retaining walls to help stabilize the road structure. The contract worth $763,292 was awarded to KC Equipment of El Cajon, Calif.
