Christmas Tree & Mushroom Permits

Christmas Tree Permits

The Shasta-Trinity National Forest begins selling Christmas tree permits on November 1 each year.  For many local families, the search for and selection of your own Christmas tree in the forest is a wonderful experience and tradition.

The majority purchased the week of Thanksgiving. We ask the public to please purchase your permit early to avoid long lines.  Permits may also be purchased through the mail by sending in the Christmas Tree Permit Application and payment to the Forest Headquarters Office in Redding.  Mail in permit requests should be postmarked no later than December 9 to ensure enough time for mailing and processing.

Please note that the California Welcome Center in Anderson will not be selling permits this year due to changes in staffing.

Each permit costs $10, there is a limit of one tree per household and they are valid through December 25. Forest Service offices accept credit cards, cash, or checks made out to: USDA Forest Service. Fourth grade students are eligible for a free Christmas tree permit under the Every Kid in a Park program. Please contact one of the offices listed below for more information.  All offices are will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to purchase your permit, excluding Veteran's Day and Thanksgiving holidays.  The Redding and Mount Shasta offices will be open on the following Saturdays in 2017: November 25, December 2, and December 9 - see hours below.
