Members sought for Resource Advisory Committees

Do you want to make a difference in your community? Are you interested in a unique opportunity to provide advice and recommendation on management activities on National Forest lands in Shasta and Trinity Counties? The Shasta-Trinity National Forest is looking for interested community members to serve on the Shasta or Trinity County Resource Advisory Committees. Resource Advisory Committees (RACs) are made up of local residents representing a diverse cross-section of interests that affect and are affected by National Forest management in their community.

Since its’ creation, the RACs have helped fund numerous projects in Shasta and Trinity Counties. Projects recommended by the RACs include fuelbreak maintenance, community chipping and other wildfire fuel reduction efforts, road and trail reconstruction and maintenance projects, fish passage and waterway restoration, conservation education programs and noxious weed reduction efforts.

Currently close to a million dollars is available for projects in these two counties! Congress passed 2018 spending bill P.L. 115-141 that included reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools program. SRS payments to states will resume, including payments to states for FY17 and FY 18.
