Are you adventurous? Do you love excitement? Are you between the ages of 15 to 18? If you said yes! Then, you have an awesome opportunity to spend your summer at one of the greatest national forests in the country. Yes, the Tahoe National Forest is recruiting local students for its Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program.  We’ll be hiring up to 6 young people between the ages of 15-18 years old for a great opportunity to help students receive experience in natural resources, forestry and recreation.  The program is set up to assist students on a career path towards natural resource management.

Please open the outreach application link and distribute widely to encourage our local youth to apply for this great opportunity. We’ll be accepting applications through April 1, 2019.  Please feel free to contact Krystal Rasmussen or Cecilia Reed with any questions you may have about the program. The Forest Service will also be happy to visit any of our local schools to speak personally about this exciting program. Please call (530) 478-6253 for more information. You can also mail this application (at the above link) to the Tahoe National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 631 Coyote Street, Nevada City, CA 95959 (Address to: YCC).

The summer of 2017, YCC crews participated in programs across the forest.  Cecilia Reed shared numerous YCC program highlights: helping reroute portions of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), brushing overgrown trails, participating in the rebuilding of flood damaged campgrounds (Hampshire Rocks, Fiddle Creek & Carlton), pulling non-native invasive weeds, assisting archology,  breaking down & decommissioning illegal fire rings at Granite Lake, assisting with the Grouse Lookout restoration, removing old rundown BBQ pits & tables at Golden Quartz Day Use, and working the booth at the Nevada County Fair.

This season, we have a number of projects planned including: Packer Lake Fishing Day, Tahoe Trails and Recreation and Botany projects. The program also includes tours of local colleges, environmental education and career development. Hope to see you soon!
