A portion of 4C Hiking Trail in the Davy Crockett National Forest is closed due to hazardous trees and damaged bridges sustained in the recent tornado, according to Acting Ranger Lanton Chumley.

The section, located north of Forest Service Road 521 to Neches Bluff Overlook is closed. The trail from Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area to Forest Service Road 521 is open.

“We will begin clearing the trail of hazardous trees and repairing the bridges once the weather improves, but may take several months,” Chumley said. “The closed section is unsafe and is closed to all users.”

On April 13, two tornados with wind speeds up to 206 miles per hour toppled trees and left limbs hanging in other trees. These trees damaged trail bridges and created a hazardous environment to forest visitors and hikers.
