Annual Alaska Hummingbird Festival in Ketchikan kicks off April 7

KETCHIKAN, Alaska, March 31, 2023 – The Alaska Hummingbird Festival will begin April 7, 2023, celebrating the return of the Rufous hummingbirds to the Tongass National Forest. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center will serve as the hub for a series of educational and creative events, including a juried art show to promote awareness of the region’s spring migratory birds.
The show’s opening reception, presented by the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau, is April 7, starting at 5 p.m. at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. Artwork will be on display through June 30, 2023.
The festival’s series of events continue through April 29 and include: Saturday morning guided bird walks, the Friday Night Insights lecture series, and Earth Day activities at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. All programs and activities are free to the public.
Summer hours begin on Monday, May 1, 2023, with the center open seven days per week* from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee collection begins on May 1 with all areas requiring a $5.00 entrance fee. Local visitors may purchase a Discovery Center season pass for $15.00 which gets the cardholder and two other adults in for a daily visit from May 1 to Sept. 30, 2022.
