JUNEAU, Alaska, Sept. 13, 2018 – The U.S. Forest Service will host its annual Fall Fun Fest on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-focused event coincides with National Public Lands Day. Activities will include arts and crafts for kids of all ages, related to the glacier, flora, and fauna of the Tongass National Forest.

This year, participants will be introduced to the new Tongass Family Field Guide. It can be used to explore the area, and discover common plants and animals in the Tongass National Forest. The Mendenhall Glacier Junior Ranger and Tongass Junior Ranger books will be available as well. Families are also encouraged to try our Agents of Discovery app.

Several key partners will help the Forest Service create this fun-filled day for families, including:

  • Discovery Southeast, the visitor center’s bookstore operator and long-time youth education non-profit, will have activities for families.
  • The Raptor Center will present Blueberry, a live raven, from 12 -1 p.m.
  • Smokey Bear will spread his message of fire safety from 11:15 to 11:45 a.m. and from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.
