KETCHIKAN, Alaska – The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center announces its operating hours for the winter season. From Nov. 1 through Dec. 13, the center will be open and free of charge on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can enjoy the exhibits, purchase America the Beautiful passes or Tongass area maps, or choose to screen one of our films highlighting Alaskan natural and cultural history.

The Cape Fox Cultural Foundation gift shop will be open on Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 1 through Nov. 15. For the holiday season, Nov. 22 through Dec. 15, the gift shop will be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Friday Night Insight programs at the center will begin on Jan. 3, 2020, at 6 p.m. and run through April 24, 2020. We will kick off the series with the 2nd annual Ketchikan Film Festival, which will be hosted by Ketchikan Public Utilities. The season will again focus on travel and adventure, including a presentation by Dr. Rice featuring his continued work with a medical clinic in the Dolpo Region of Nepal. Another highlight from the schedule will be a program by Tom Heutte which focuses on a bicycle tour he took of the Golden Circle of Alaska, a route from Haines through Haines Junction and Whitehorse to Skagway. His journey will follow the historic trading routes of the area, through the heart of the largest protected wilderness area in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage Biosphere Preserve. The full Friday Night Insight schedule will be published in December.

We hope to see you at the Discovery Center all winter long. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is located at 50 Main Street in Ketchikan.
