First Fireside Lecture of 2020 features findings by Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center

JUNEAU, Alaska – The Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center invites you to the first Fireside Lecture of the season on Friday, January 10, 2020. The lecture is titled Exploring the Links between Land and Sea in the Coastal Temperate Rainforest.

Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center Director Allison Bidlack will discuss ongoing research in the north Pacific coastal temperate rainforest and neighboring ocean ecosystems. She will detail how the dynamic flow of water and nutrients between land and sea supports productive food webs and human communities, and how these complex linkages are being affected by climate change.

The Friday night Fireside Lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Fireside Lectures and the Visitor Center are free of charge.

Visitor Center Winter Hours:

The Visitor Center, Discovery Zone, and Discovery Southeast Bookstore are open all winter through March on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and during Friday nights for lectures. The Visitor Center is closed on all federal holidays. Outdoor areas around the visitor center are open 6 a.m. to midnight, year-round.
