Existing Scenic Integrity Map

Description of the Existing Scenic Integrity Map

The PDF map of the Tonto National Forest shows locations of the existing scenic integrity conditions at a forestwide scale.

  • Very High scenic integrity conditions are “unaltered” and generally correspond to designated and recommended wilderness areas, pictured here in solid dark purple.
  • High scenic integrity conditions “appear unaltered” and generally correspond to the majority of forested lands between wilderness areas and major roads and highways, pictured here in medium purple with diagonal lines.
  • Moderate scenic integrity conditions are “slightly altered” and generally correspond to areas surrounding major roads and highways, pictured here in gray with horizontal lines.
  • Low scenic integrity conditions are “moderately altered” and are barely represented at the forestwide scale, pictured here in solid light gray.
  • Very Low scenic integrity conditions are “heavily altered” and generally correspond to administrative facilities and utilities around the Salt River, pictured here in white cross hatched pattern.
     

Desired Scenic Integrity Map

Description of the Desired Scenic Integrity Map

The PDF is a map of the Tonto National Forest shows locations of the desired scenic integrity conditions at a forestwide scale. This map is similar to the existing scenic integrity conditions except areas of Very High scenic integrity conditions are expanded. Moderate scenic integrity conditions are also expanded, especially along the border with the Phoenix Metropolitan Area.

  • Very High scenic integrity conditions are “unaltered” and generally correspond to designated and recommended wilderness areas, pictured here in solid dark purple.
  • High scenic integrity conditions “appear unaltered” and generally correspond to the majority of forested lands between wilderness areas and major roads and highways, pictured here in medium purple with diagonal lines.
  • Moderate scenic integrity conditions are “slightly altered” and generally correspond to areas surrounding major roads and highways, pictured here in gray with horizontal lines.
  • Low scenic integrity conditions are “moderately altered” and are barely represented at the forestwide scale, pictured here in solid light gray.
  • Very Low scenic integrity conditions are “heavily altered” and generally correspond to administrative facilities and utilities around the Salt River, pictured here in white cross hatched pattern.

Description of the Timber Suitability Map

A PDF map of the Tonto National Forest at a forestwide scale. Areas of timber suitability are shown in golden brown. The vast majority of timber suitability areas on the forest are located along the northern forest boundary, south of the Mogollon Rim. Another area overlaps highway 288, and a third area is in the Pinal Mountains south of Globe, AZ.
