Tonto National Forest Offices Close for Mandatory Training-Please call ahead

PHOENIX, June 7, 2018 - For Immediate Release.  Tonto National Forest offices will close for one day during the week of June 11, to allow all employees to attend mandatory training.  Each office will be closed or offer limited services on the day of training.  This includes offices in Cave Creek, Globe, Mesa, Payson, Phoenix and Roosevelt, Arizona.  Please call ahead to make sure the office you wish to visit is open, and can provide the service you need.  Phone numbers and addresses can be found at:  https://www.fs.usda.gov/tonto/

Individual offices will be closed or offer limited services the following days:

  • On Monday, June 11, 2018, the Cave Creek Ranger District Office will be closed and phones will not be answered.
  • On Wednesday, June 13, 2018, the Mesa Ranger District Office will be closed and phones will not be answered.  The Payson Ranger District Office will be open and phones will be answered, however, passes and permits will not be sold.
  • On Friday, June 15, 2018, the Tonto Basin Ranger District Office in Roosevelt will be open and phones will be answered, however, all services may not be available.  Please call ahead.  The Tonto Supervisor’s Office in Phoenix will be closed and phones will not be answered.
  • On Thursday, June 21, 2018, the Globe Ranger District Office will be open and phones will be answered, however, all services may not be available.  Please call ahead.

As a reminder, 85% of the Tonto National Forest is open for public enjoyment under Stage 2 fire restrictions.  No campfires, charcoal grills or smoking outdoors.  Propane fueled devices are allowed in a cleared area.  Chainsaw use is only allowed between the hours of 8:00 pm and 9:00 am.  Motorized vehicles, with spark arresting devices, are allowed on existing roads and motorized trails.  Please pull over and park in areas clear of any grasses or vegetation.

There are two areas on the Tonto National Forest currently closed to all entry, including all lands, roads and trails within the Mt. Ord, Four Peaks Mountains and Three Bar Wildlife Area; and all National Forest System lands, roads and trails, on the Tonto National Forest north of Payson to the Mogollon Rim.  Detailed descriptions of the closed areas, including maps, can be found at:  Temporary Fire Area Closure.
