Local Volunteer Groups Recognized in Forest Service Award Ceremony

PHOENIX, June 8, 2018 – Please join the Tonto National Forest in congratulating two outstanding volunteer organizations - Friends of the Tonto and Tonto Recreation Alliance, and two outstanding volunteers Georgy Namoli and Mike Salvucci.  All are recipients of the USDA Forest Service Regional Volunteer and Service Awards.

Each year, the Forest Service recognizes individuals, organizations, and partners for their efforts in four categories - Enduring Service, Restoration, Leadership, and Citizen Stewardship and Partnerships.

Friends of the Tonto received recognition for their restoration efforts.  They provide support to the Tonto National Forest by recruiting volunteers, hosting trainings and orientations for new volunteers.  They maintain a highly demanding schedule of biweekly watering events to ensure the success of the newly planted milkweeds as part of the Mesa Ranger District Monarch Habitat Restoration Project.

Tonto Recreation Alliance (TRAL) received recognition for their Citizen Stewardship and Partnership work.  TRAL assisted the Tonto National Forest by collecting and analyzing data, inspecting routes, conducting trail maintenance and installing markers along off highway vehicle routes, recruiting volunteers and members, and providing quality input to the Forest’s Travel Management process.

For Enduring Service, Georgy Namoli was recognized for dedicating her time and efforts to the Mesa Ranger District.  She always brings positive energy, kindness, and a hard-working attitude.

Mike Salvucci received Leadership recognition as a dedicated and positive leader on the Tonto National Forest.  He actively participates in the Superstition Wilderness Advisory Group, Superstition Wilderness Steward Program and leads the Wilderness Adopt-a-Trail Program.

“Thank you for helping complete important, priority work on the Tonto National Forest” said Neil Bosworth, Forest Supervisor.  “Congratulations to all of the recipients, and thanks to all of our volunteers for the support that you provide.”
