PHOENIX, May 14, 2021 — For Immediate Release. Interested parties who previously submitted comments during an official comment period about the Pinto Valley Mine Project have until May 24 to file an objection to the final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) or the associated draft Record of Decision (ROD).

A list of key information to include in an objection is outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (36 CFR 218) and on the project website.

Objections, including attachments, must be addressed to the Reviewing Official, Regional Forester and filed via:

  • Mail or express delivery to 333 Broadway Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM, 87102
  • FAX: (505) 842-3800
  • Email

An automated response will confirm when electronic submissions have been received. If an automated response is not received, it is the sender’s responsibility to ensure timely filing by other means. Electronic objections must be submitted in Microsoft Word, portable document format (PDF), or rich text format (RTF). The subject line for electronic submissions should indicate ‘Pinto Valley Mine’. It is the objector’s responsibility to ensure evidence of timely receipt.

Issues raised in objections must be based on previously submitted specific written comments regarding this project proposal and attributed to the objector, unless the issue is based on new information that arose after the opportunities for comment. Specific written comments should be within the scope of the proposed action, with a direct relationship to the proposed action, and include supporting reasons for the responsible official to consider.

The FEIS, draft ROD, and supporting documentation are available online.

Tonto officials released the FEIS along with a draft ROD for the Pinto Valley Mine Project on April 9, 2021, initiating a 45-day objection period. The Forest Service plans to issue a final ROD in summer 2021.
