The annual Arbor Day tree giveaway is scheduled for Saturday April 14, 2018. It will take place from 10a.m.-2p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, near the grocery entrance.

Volunteers are scheduled to give away the free tree seedlings. The trees will be given away first come, first served. In addition, there will be information handouts available and a booth for children to decorate ornaments that will go on this year’s White House Christmas Tree.

Varieties available include Ponderosa Pine, Water Birch, Quaking Aspen, and Red-Osier Dogwood.

Each year’s event is popular, and the event sponsors welcome the opportunity to engage with the public to hand out free tree seedlings, answer questions, and provide a wide variety of information on trees.

Arbor Day is celebrated nationwide on an annual basis. Each state and municipality sets the date. Oregon’s Arbor Week is the first full calendar week in April, and Pendleton’s 2018 Arbor Day is on April 16. Mayor John Turner read an Arbor Day Proclamation at the April 3 City Council meeting.
