September 12, 2018 – The Bald Mountain Fire, was reported on August 24, 2018 and was caused by lightning. The fire is located in the Mount Nebo Wilderness Area, west of the Nebo Loop Scenic route, on the Spanish Fork Ranger District. Due to warm, dry and windy conditions, the fire has grown to approximately 5 acres. The fire is expected to increase in size with high winds in the forecast over the next few days. No values are threatened.

Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire and are using confine and contain suppression techniques to minimize risk to firefighters while allowing the fire to remove accumulated dead and down fuels, and enhance wildlife habitat.

Smoke from this fire may be visible from parts of the I-15 and Highway 89 corridors, surrounding communities, and along the Mount Nebo Loop Scenic Byway.

Please do not report,  stay out of the active fire area.
