To ensure public safety, closed areas will be staffed 24 hours/day to inform visitors and enforce the closure. Whitewater Fire, Mt. Jefferson Wilderness

The Whitewater Fire is actively burning in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness. As of August 12, 2017, the fire was approximately 5,920 acres. Containment is zero percent. Three Sisters Emergency Fire Area Closure

The Willamette and Deschutes National Forests have implemented an area closure that covers a large portion of the Three Sisters Wilderness threatened by fire activity.

All trails south of Highway 242 into the Three Sisters Wilderness on the Willamette National Forest are closed with the exception of Proxy Falls, which remains open. Also closed is the Obsidian Trailhead and Obsidian Limited Entry Area. The area closure also includes Deschutes National Forest managed lands within the Three Sisters Wilderness.

Jones Fire

As of August 14, 2017 the Jones fire was approximately at 2,368 acres and is located in the Little Fall Creek watershed outside of Lowell. The fire is located near Forest Road 1817 and approximately 9 miles east of Fall Creek reservoir and 1 mile north of Clark Butte. The public is not permitted in this area. The Willamette National Forest and the Oregon Department of Forestry are working on fire suppression operations.
