Today, management of the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 fires will transition from Northwest Incident Management Team 9 (NW9) to NW12, the team managing the Jones Fire.  The transition process began several days ago.  Leaders from both teams met with their counterparts and participated in joint team meetings.  Today, to further understand the fires, NW12 will shadow with NW9.

This morning, Incident Commander Brian Goff again thanked firefighters for their work in on the fires.  “Together, we met containment objectives and protected important values,” Goff said.

Securing lines on these fires has been a difficult task., said Goff.  The area is very steep and rugged, vegetation is dense, and many places are not accessible.  Fire operations managers were creative in using alternative means to contain the fire while keeping firefighters safe. Tactics included use of sprinklers, therma-gel, logging equipment and explosives.  Water, readily available near the fire, was used extensively to secure lines.

The Tumble Bug 2 Fire is in patrol status. Firefighters mopped up containment lines to 100 feet and back hauled equipment and supplies they used in suppression and mop up.

On the Staley Fire, firefighters completed the containment line and mopped up most of it to 100 feet.  On the remaining small portion of the line, they mopped up to 25 feet and will continue mop up on that portion over the next few days.

At the end of today, resources will be released from the Staley and Tumble Bug 2 Fires. Some will transition to the Jones Fire team, some will transfer to other fires, and some will go home.

There is a Red Flag warning for extreme fire danger through Tuesday.  Smoke will continue to linger in the area.  Please use caution when recreating this holiday weekend.  Fires will start easily and spread quickly.
