Christmas Tree Permits

A man hauling a Christmas tree out of a snowy forestIt is the most wonderful time of the year to visit your national forest and find the perfect holiday tree for your home!

Christmas Tree Permits are available at our Springfield Interagency Office as well as, Detroit, McKenzie River, Sweet Home and Middle Fork Ranger District offices.  Additionally, the Willamette National Forest is offering Christmas trees online through the Open Forest pilot program this holiday season.

Starting, November 12, 2019, visitors can purchase permits and receive maps of cutting areas at all our offices on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the exception of Thanksgiving, November 28, when offices are closed.   Additionally, the Middle Fork Ranger District will be open for Christmas Tree permit sales on November 29-December 1, December 7-8 and 14-15.  Smokey Bear will be present to greet folks on December 7 and 8.   Click here for contact information for each office.

Permits are $5.00 each. They allow the holder to cut one tree in designated areas; each household can purchase up to a maximum of five permits.  This year, trees can be as tall as 15 feet.

As part of  the national Every Kid Outdoors initiative, the U.S. Forest Service is excited to announce that all fourth graders are eligible for a free holiday tree permit from their local national forest. In order for students to receive a free tree permit, they must present a valid paper voucher printed from the Every Kid Outdoors website at a Forest Service ranger station or office. Visit the Every Kid Outdoors website at www.everykidoutdoors.gov for more information.

Holiday enthusiasts looking for the perfect tree will also be able to purchase permits from the following local vendors. Please note: Every Kid Outdoors tree permits are only available at Forest Service offices, not from local vendors.
