Fishing - Green River

Green River

The Green River waters below the Flaming Gorge Dam are a fly fisherman’s dream!  Since completion of the Dam in 1962, the Green River has become a premier trout fishery.  Anglers can float the river in dories, rafts or kick boats, and there is foot access to the river from the Little Hole National Recreation Trail which runs between the Spillway and Little Hole boat launch sites.

Species Present: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Cutthroat Trout

Seasons: Year round.

Access: There are 2 major access points to the Green River within the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area:

  • Flaming Gorge Dam Spillway: Located off a narrow, winding road approximately one mile below the Dam. Facilities include a seasonally operated fee contact station, boat ramp, parking, bathrooms, and trail head for the Little Hole Trail.  Drinking water is available seasonally.
  • Little Hole: Located approximately 7 river miles below the Dam. Facilities include a seasonally operated fee contact station, boat ramps, fully accessible parking, fishing platforms, bathrooms, picnic areas and trail head for the Little Hole Trail. Drinking water is available seasonally.

Camping: Year-round camping is available at Dripping Springs Campground, located 4 miles west of Little Hole. Reservations are available and fees are charged.

There are eighteen hike-in/float-in campsites located below Little Hole. Reservations are available for six of these sites and fees are charged for all sites.  Non-reserved sites are first-come, first-served, but registration for campsites must be made the day of use at Little Hole on the Camp Registration Board.  For more information visit the Camping webpage.
