Lake Fork River

Lake Fork River is dammed to form Moon Lake just south of the High Uintas Wilderness Area. The dam is operated for irrigation making the river below the reservoir fishable usually from mid-September through October. The river above the reservoir is accessible by trail from the Moon Lake campground. Camping is available.

Fish species: Rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and brook trout.

Yellowstone Creek

The section of Yellowstone Creek on the Ashley is accessible from Forest Service Road 124. A trailhead from 124 provides access to the Yellowstone Creek and Swift Creek drainages within the High Uintas Wilderness.

Fish species: Rainbow, cutthroat, and brook trout.

Uinta River

The Uinta River is a relatively large river for the south slope of the Uintas and drains portion of Kings Peak (Utahs highest mountain at 13,528 ft). The section of river on the Ashley is accessible from Forest Service Road 118. A trailhead from 118 provides access to the river drainage within the High Uintas Wilderness Area.

Fish species: Rainbow, cutthroat, brown, and brook trout.

Whiterocks River Drainage

The section of this drainage on the Ashley has good vehicular access. Most of the lakes are accessible to day-hikers. Main trailheads are from the West Fork of Whiterocks and Chepeta Lake.

Fish species: Brook, cutthroat, and rainbow trout.

Ashley Creek Drainage

There are over 70 lakes and ponds in the Ashley Creek drainage of which 20 or more contain trout populations. This drainage is divided into 3 main basins: Dry Fork Creek, South Fork of Ashley Creek, and North Fork of Ashley Creek. A trailhead from Paradise Park Reservoir provides access to the upper Dry Fork Creek basin. Trailheads from Ashley Twins Reservoir and Hacking Lake provide access to the South Fork of Ashley Creek.

Fish species: Brook, rainbow, and cutthroat trout.
