The Chippewa National Forest will be hosting a Youth Archaeology Workshop near Cass Lake, MN. The purpose of the Workshop is to offer local youth an opportunity to learn about archaeology as well as the fascinating history of the Chippewa National Forest through hands-on experience working with professional archaeologists engaged in archaeological research. We are planning for a small group of 8th and 9th-grade students (either entering 8th or 9th grade in the fall or who completed 7th or 9th grade this year).

Join us in June!

Participants will spend three days working alongside Forest Service archaeologists and other National Forest staff. They will be exposed to the techniques of archaeological excavation, data collection, and artifact analysis. The goal of this workshop is to teach local youth to respect the social practices, belief systems, and values of peoples and cultures through the study of the material objects they left behind.
