During the winter and spring months vehicle use on dirt roads and trails is prohibited.

  • Every Year: January 1 through March 31 unless extended.

  • Shoulder Period: A forest order is issued to go into the closure early or extend the closure based on forest conditions at the time.

Travel Management Designation - Link to project information

  • Allows highway legal and non-highway legal motor vehicle use by the public on 1,002 miles of Maintenance Level 2 native surfaced roads. In addition, there are 635 miles of surfaced roads suitable for passenger cars that were not a part of this decision.

  • Allows motorcycle, ATV, and high clearance vehicle use on 210 miles of trails. 

  • Prohibits public wheeled motor vehicle cross-country travel. 

  • Seasonal closure on all NFTS trails and native surfaced roads to highway legal and non-highway legal vehicles from January 1 through March 31 annually. Allows for extension before or after if conditions warrant.

  • Prohibits public wheeled over-the-snow travel on the following:

    • All designated snowmobile routes and cross-country ski trails on the ENF,

    • Mormon Emigrant Trail (10N50/Forest Route 5) from the junction of Silver Fork Road (11N40) southeast to the Iron Mountain SnoPark at Highway 88;

    • Loon Lake Campground Road (13N17);

    • Chipmunk Bluff Road (13N19);

    • Robbs Peak Road (13N31).

For the trails in the East Zone -- a wet weather closure will be triggered by 2.0 inches of snow. Call 530-344-6477 for the status of the trails.

Use 

03-24-2xx Wet Weather Closure for Rock Creek Trails for OHVs, bicycles and equestrians - this closure is triggered after 1.5 inches of rainfall, and is lifted after a 48 hour period of drying weather; it affects all other Rock Creek Trails not part of the Critical Deer Winter Range. Call 530-344-6477 for the status of the trails.
