Storm Damaged Roads and Facilities

In January-March 2017, a series of strong storms hit California, causing extensive damage to roads, trails, infrastructure, and ecosystems on all national forests in the state. The impacts of the damage had far-reaching effects on forest programs, services, and public access.

There is a road failure (that can be driven around) and a blown out culvert.  The road crew performed emergency repairs, building an access road with agg base through the section of road where the pipe is missing.  But excess runoff over the winter could damage the emergency access road, making it impassable.

Due to  road damage from the last 2 winters, access into the area is limited. A PG&E contractor made an intermediate fix to the damaged area, allowing for safe passage to the North Fork Mokelumne River.  Please be alert to driving dangers. 

  • Ellis road is temporarily CLOSED FOR road repair for 2-6 weeks from mid-July to end of August. It will re-open when the construction is completed.
