Chauga and Chattooga Rivers 1,300 Lbs of Litter Lighter after Cleanup

Chauga Chattooga Cleanup CollageThe SC Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) coordinated the Second Annual Chauga & Chattooga River Clean-Up on March 1, 2014 on the Andrew Pickens Ranger District. Over 80 volunteers picked up litter along the two rivers totaling 1,300 lbs of trash. A diverse range of volunteers participated from Girl Scout & Boy Scout Troops from Oconee & Pickens counties, students from Clemson University's Wildlife Society, the Chattooga Chapter of Trout Unlimited, outfitters of the river guide companies, US Forest Service, SC DNR, and Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

The event was made possible by community support from the Chattooga River Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Wal-Mart of Seneca, Bountyland Quick Stop Stores, Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Palmetto Pride, and Chattooga Sounds Camp.

In the two years of the river sweeps a total of 210 volunteers donated 980 volunteer hours resulting in approximately 3,600 lbs of trash cleared from the Chauga and Chattooga Rivers.

Hats off to our volunteers!
