Volunteers Go Back to Basics to Clear Chattooga Trail

The wild and scenic Chattooga River was the backdrop for a November, 2013 trail project on the Andrew Pickens. Crews lopped encroaching vegetation, improved trail tread and cleared windfalls from the trail inside the Ellicott Rock Wilderness. Because mechanized equipment is prohibited within federally-designated wilderness areas, the volunteers used two-person crosscut saws rather than chainsaws to buck trees from the trail. Please allow a few seconds for the image to load.
