Major Differences in Existing
and New Protocols

  1. New protocol divides the agency's 45,000 buildings into "basic" and "complex" depending upon whether or not they include electrical, mechanical and/or plumbing.  Less specialized personnel will be used to assess "basic" buildings.

  2. Assessments will be done using standard forms, standard work items, standard levels of care, standard costs and cost adjustments, and will concentrate on major component replacement, resulting in a much higher level of consistency in assessing asset value and condition across units.  Costing will be automated.

  3. In the future, options for dealing with preventive maintenance and repair will be investigated, probably by going to an "off the shelf" maintenance management system.
