This is the second in a series of tech tips about innovative building materials developed in the first half of the 20th century that were commonly incorporated into Forest Service buildings. It provides practical information to help engineers, persons working in the heritage program, and others maintain and preserve historic facilities that contain fiberboard and plywood. It describes the history of fiberboard and plywood, their manufacture, and their physical characteristics. It addresses common problems encountered with fiberboard and plywood and provides guidance on their maintenance, repair, and replacement.
